Description
We waited a long time to harvest this Gewurztraminer, so that the botrytis would appear on the berries, this noble rot so sought after great sweet wines. This cuvée was finally harvested on 30 October 2017, the day Augustin, Matern's first great-grandson, was born, i.e. 30 years after his mother's Elise cuvée!
This exceptional cuvée has a great ageing potential: 15 years or more (we have kept a few bottles for Augustin's 18th birthday in his personal cellar).
It should be drunk just chilled, so that the cold does not spoil the nose and the aromas of this powerful and complex wine. Indeed, its nose is expressive with ripe fruit as well. It reveals notes of honey and candied fruits.
This wine has a nice balance and remains very elegant despite the power of the sugars.
Awarded one star in the Guide Hachette des Vins 2021.
Food and Wine pairing
The power of this wine will go perfectly with foie gras, desserts or as an aperitif.
It also stands on its own, like all great wines!
