Sylvaner d'Alsace
This grape variety has a great freshness and a discreet fruitiness.
Sylvaner, traditional wine of Alsace
Sylvaner, a grape variety grown only in Germany and Alsace, is fresh, slightly acidic and fruity by nature. It is refreshing and lightens your tasty and authentic dishes.
Originally from Austria, this grape variety has been cultivated mainly in Germany and Alsace for two centuries. However, it continues to spread throughout Europe, even passing through Transylvania. This variety represents a little more than 12% of the Alsatian vineyard, in other words, 1824 hectares of vines.
The reputation of the Sylvaner grape variety has varied over the ages. Long known and recognized, it suffered a sudden drop in interest at the time when Tokay (Pinot Gris today) developed. Thanks to the obstinacy of certain winegrowers, it has made a comeback. Since 2005, it benefits from the Grand Cru appellation for the grape varieties in the concerned places.
Our Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes comes from a limestone plot with vines over 50 years old. This parcel benefits from a moderate size.
What to pair Sylvaner d'Alsace with ?
Sylvaner is the typical everyday wine, which will accompany simple dishes as it should be. Thus, it can be served with starters, salads, cheeses.
Its thirst-quenching and refreshing side is suitable for situations such as simple aperitifs on the terrace. The freshness of this grape variety will go well with cold meats. Very versatile, it goes perfectly with iodized dishes (fish in sauce, oysters, shellfish).
However, Sylvaner will adapt extremely well with more modern and current cuisines: vegetarian dishes, sushi, poke bowl, buddha bowl.
